The Sussex Post-Graduate Medical Centre

The Audrey Emerton Building Education Centre was built by Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust to create a stimulating and friendly environment for the education and training of healthcare professionals. The building forms part of the Brighton and Sussex Medical School which is one of four new medical schools created as part of the government’s strategy to increase the number of qualified doctors from the UK working in the NHS. In its first year it became the most popular choice for medical students in the UK.

The Euan Keat Education Centre – Haywards Heath

he Education Centre at the Princess Royal Hospital is located on the second floor opposite the Library. The centre has two lecture theatres one seats 150 (and is divisible into two separate seminar rooms each fully equipped with state of the art audio visual facilities) and an 80 seater lecture theatre. Each Lecture theatre has a live link to the operating theatres.

Emergencies

The post holder accepts that he/she will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant, in consultation where practicable with his/her colleagues both senior and junior. It has been agreed between the profession and the department that while additional commitments arising under this subsection are exceptional and in particular that juniors should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.

Main Conditions

The appointment is subject to the National Terms and Conditions of Service for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England and Wales) and to the General Whitley Council of Conditions of Service.

Medical clearance is required prior to taking up the post;

Doctors must be registered with the General Medical Council, and it is advisable to be a member of a Medical Defence Organisation;

The appointment is whole-time and salary is that of a Senior House Officer.

The posts are educationally approved for training.

The Junior Medical Staff have their own mess.

There are various facilities available through the ‘Better Deal for Staff’ Scheme, details of which are available from the Personnel Department.

An extensive shopping area is easily within reach and there is an adequate public transport service from a stop outside the Hospital.
Good train services exist to London.

The Hospital is situated a few minutes walk from the sea and Brighton Marina.

Risk Management/Health & Safety

The post holder has a responsibility to themselves and others in relation to managing risk, health and safety and will be required to work within the policies and procedures laid down by the Trust. All staff have a responsibility to access occupational health, other staff support services and/or any relevant others in times of need and advice.
