Dr Maria Nagy started General Practice in 1994 working in Cheshunt following graduation from Glasgow University. She came to Brighton in 2000 and pursues her current medical interests in womens’ medicine and psychiatry. She would advise anyone thinking of joining the VTS scheme to seek a post that will give them wide, varied and full exposure of the problems presented in General Practice. In particular this is an inner-city practice with a funky, downtown High Street presence and a young age mix. The work here sees many contraception issues (especially involved around teenagers), psychotic patients within the community and those who choose substance misuse. Within the practice’s team are clinicians with a wide variety of skills that meet all patients’ needs from family planning through to diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The whole practice has a high commitment to teaching and training. The registrar will need to be flexible with working within the practice but is offered outside training courses and a fully tailored scheme agreed with the trainer to meet your needs. When she’s not busy enjoying her work Dr Nagy relaxes with cooking, walking, theatre and film. barbara.nagy@nhs.net.
