DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
Acute Elderly care beds are located at RSCH on Bristol ward 18 beds [Dr Alexander and Dr Bayliss], Vallance ward 20 beds [Dr Bradshaw, Dr Harper and Dr Wright], and Solomon / Donald Hall 23 beds [Dr Gainsborough and Professor Rajkumar]. Two wards remain at Brighton General Hospital for slow stream rehabilitation, C1 and C2. These beds are managed by local general practitioners supported by the DME consultants. There is a 20 place Day Hospital at BGH with a comprehensive multidisciplinary falls clinic. The Stroke unit (Donald Hall and Solomon) is a 23 bedded unit with a full multidisciplinary team.
Research and Teaching - there is ongoing research and clinical audit taking place within the Department. You will be encouraged to participate in these activities. Every Thursday at 12.45pm there is a Department clinical meeting with regular team based slots for presenting current clinical, ethical and audit issues. There is also a Physicians’ Clinical/Audit Meeting every Wednesday lunchtime between 1pm and 2pm. Morning report occurs on a Thursday morning and provides useful case based discussion. You are expected to attend these meetings.
All junior doctors at BSUHT play an active and valuable role in the teaching of the third and 5th year BSMS clinical students.

DUTIES OF THE POST
The post holder will be clinically responsible for hospital in-patients, under the supervision of one of the Consultants in Elderly Care. They should attend the weekly consultant-led multi-disciplinary meeting and regular outpatient clinics. This post also includes general internal medicine on call in the medical assessment unit, with daily mid and post take ward rounds with the consultant physician on call.
